Real winners and losers from baseball’s opening day

The baseball season is (roughly) one day old, but that didn’t stop Yahoo! Sports from publishing an article titled “Winners and losers from the ‘real’ opening day“:

Yahoo Sports - Winners and Losers

Way to stigmatize the first two opening days with those single quotation mark, guys.

The article was filled with a detailed and lengthy list of ‘winners’ (like Alex Gonzalez, who hit a game-tying triple and a walk-off single) and ‘losers’ (like the Mets bullpen, which lost the game and a closer).

That’s all very interesting, but unfortunately completely inaccurate. What follows is a real (no scare quotes) list of Winners and losers from the ‘real’ opening day:

WINNERS

Seattle Mariners
Pittsburgh Pirates
Detroit Tigers
Washington Nationals
Philadelphia Phillies
Milwaukee Brewers
Baltimore Orioles
Chicago White Sox
St. Louis Cardinals
Tampa Bay Rays
Miami Marlins
San Francisco Giants
Cleveland Indians

LOSERS

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
Chicago Cubs
Kansas City Royals
New York Mets
Texas Rangers
Atlanta Braves
Boston Red Sox
Minnesota Twins
Cincinnati Reds
Toronto Blue Jays
Colorado Rockies
Arizona Diamondbacks
Oakland Athletics
