Hamas is terrifyingly good at a lot of things. It’s good at smuggling weaponry. It’s good at building rockets. It’s good at tunneling into Israel. But information that’s come out over the past couple of days indicates that one of its plans has come to nothing — and that shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Reports the Jerusalem Post:
Members of a Hamas cell trained in Malaysia to carry out a cross-border attack using a powered parachute, Hamas suspects have revealed to interrogators. . .
The suspect was taught how to kidnap soldiers, and tunnel warfare. He was scheduled to train others in the same combat skills this month.
The suspect traveled to Malaysia in 2012, where he and nine other Hamas members learned how to fly a powered parachute.
In Gaza, the cell members underwent repeated training sessions on how to fly into Israel and carry out attacks, and were ordered by their Hamas commanders to keep their training top secret.
And now he’s been captured and the secret is blown — but that this here plan went south shouldn’t come as anything like a surprise: “Never take flight lessons in Malaysia” should rank right up there with “Never get involved in a land war in Asia” and the less well-known “Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line“.
May Hamas go from weakness to weakness in everything it does.
