Why did Tom Brady specifically invoke ISIS?

In an effort to deflect attention from the deflated balls his team may or may not have prepared for the AFC Championship Game, Patriots QB Tom Brady declared, “This isn’t ISIS.” Of course not: as Colbert famously noted, that organization’s beheadings are reminiscent of the NFL, but with less head trauma.

So why did Brady go out of his way to draw such an obvious distinction? As previously noted on this very blog, the Seahawks actually did just face off against ISIS, and emerged victorious. [By way of brief reminder, one FOX News analyst said of ISIS, “They’re the Green Bay Packers.”] Once Tom saw what the Seahawks did to ISIS, it’s unsurprising he felt the desire to dissociate.

It isn’t going to help him. Go Hawks.
